table runners

If you follow along with me on my Instagram account, you know I’ve made a few table runners this summer!

Our summer has been busy - so quick, easy, and completed projects are so rewarding when there’s not much time to sew.

A few weeks ago I went on the hunt for some fabric to make a new table runner that would carry me through the “in-between”. What’s the “in-between”?

The In-Between

I generally have patriotic decorations up from June to the end of July. But I like to switch things up in August and I’m not ready for pumpkins yet. (I don’t put my pumpkins out until the beginning of October). So I’m always looking something end of summer / back to school for August and September. The “in-between” .

I’ve been admiring Sharon Holland’s KINDRED fabric line.. I thought it would be the perfect “in-between” fabric for a new table runner.

So I surfed a bit on the Missouri Star Quilt Co. website and bought a super fun pattern and a layer cake of Sharon’s Kindred fabric line and made my new favorite table runner!

It’s huge! It’s the largest runner I’ve made. It measures 48” x 27” .

The pattern is a bonus pattern in the “Four-Patch Burst” quilt pattern by Missouri Star Quilt Co.

I’ve never made a table runner this large before. But I am loving it! I thought after I started sewing that it might be a bit too big for my table. But I actually really like it!

As I mentioned, the pattern is a quilt pattern (I want to make the quilt now too!) the runner uses the left overs after making the quilt.

I read through the instructions completely, and then made some notes on the measurements of the fabric I would need for the runner. (since I didn’t make the quilt) That took a little bit of time, but was well worth it.

I LOVED sewing with Sharon’s fabric. It’s absolutely beautiful and the coordinating prints were a match made in heaven. I love the deep russet, berry, and navy in the collection. The large floral prints are my favorite. But the pretty subtle gray and cream floral is a good one too!

The colors and overall feel of the runner just felt like the “in-between” to me. It made me think of going back to school shopping when I was young. I’ve always been drawn to red and navy, and in many of my school portraits I’m wearing red or navy.

In fact the other day I came across this picture. It’s my maternal grandmother, me, and my sister. I’m almost positive these were back to school outfits and I love them! (not sure where the pic was taken though?)

A little more about the pattern;

This is a super fun pattern to showcase larger prints. And the larger blocks go together so quickly! I’m really thinking I need to dig through my Christmas fabrics and make a Christmas quilt with this pattern. I’m guessing it could be done in a day or pretty close to a day.

Added bonus; Missouri Star has a video tutorial for this pattern on their YouTube channel

So I’m curious - what fabrics do you envision for this quilt / table runner pattern? I’m going to be on the hunt for some larger print fabrics to showcase!
